Workshop Eden Prairie Minneapolis

ep_fire_logoIn the past weeks Netage has made a big trip trough the USA. We have done market research and visited Fire Services throughout the USA to communicate our vision and present our products.

At Eden Prairie Minneapolis Bart van Leeuwen gave a workshop on behalf of Netage to Fire Chiefs and IT specialists from the fire services in Minneapolis area. A group of about 20 people listened with great interest to the story of Bart. Bart explained what terms like ‘Big Data’ and ‘Smart Data’ exactly mean and what there effect may be on the fire service. Bart’s explanation was a good starting point for discussion and gave insight into the problems of data processing in the fire service. During the coffee break it became clear that the story of Bart was greatly appreciated and resulted in discussing the possibilities of a potential collaboration.

Finally, Bart also has given an extensive demo of the RESC.Info products from Netage, this generated plenty of positive reactions.

Graph Data Proof of Concept for NFPA

NFPANetage has been tasked by the NFPA to convert the information from the National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS) to Graph Data. This Proof of Concept is the first step to build a “fire ontology” which will help with processing the huge amounts of available data.

Graph Data Proof Of Concept

By making the information in NFIRS available as Graph Data, NFPA is able to start on discovering connections in the data. These connections contribute to the ultimate goal of the ‘Fire Ontology’, using smart data for the safety of the people in the fire service and civilians.

The contract consist of:

In the process of modeling the Graph Data we will make use of the previously developed models from other fire service applications.

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) from the USA is a non profit organization and develops and publishes more than 300 consensus codes and standards intended to eliminate death, injury, property and economic loss due to fire, electrical, and related hazards. NFPA codes and standards, administered by more than 250 Technical Committees comprising nearly 9,000 volunteer committee member seats, are adopted and used throughout the world.

The NFPA has an influential position within the fire service so the logical next step is to better utilize the available data. By the use of data the NFPA is able to better develop and support the guidelines and standards and by it’s independent position NFPA may also act as a central point of data processing within the fire service.
